Anti-Bullying & Behaviour
A high-level summary of the principles behind how we support positive behaviour and keep young people safe from bullying.
Draft for legal review. This page reflects standard UK practice for registered children’s homes but has not yet been reviewed by a solicitor or finalised by New Dawn’s leadership. Please confirm all details — particularly any bracketed placeholders — before publishing.
This page summarises the principles behind our full Anti-Bullying and Behaviour Support Policy, available in detail to families, professionals, and regulators on request.
Behaviour as communication
We start from the understanding that behaviour often communicates an unmet need. Our response is trauma-informed, not punitive.
Zero tolerance for bullying
Bullying of any kind — in person or online — is taken seriously and addressed promptly, with support for everyone involved.
Consistent, predictable boundaries
Clear, fair expectations help young people feel secure, understand consequences, and rebuild trust after difficult moments.
De-escalation first
Staff are trained in de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques, used before any more restrictive response is considered.
Restorative approaches
Where harm has occurred, we favour restorative conversations that repair relationships over purely punitive sanctions.
Young people's participation
Young people help shape the expectations they're asked to meet, and are heard when things go wrong.
